On the development trend of activated carbon industry in Lianyungang sewage treatment in the 21st century, experts from the Research Institute of Forest Products and Chemical Industry of the Chinese Academy of Forestry believe that: Activated carbon as an important branch of new materials and carbon materials, its comprehensive excellent adsorption properties and wide application in the national economic sector, will continue to show its vigorous vitality in the new century, but also will face more development opportunities and challenges.

From the perspective of the development trend of environmental protection, since the 1970s, the environmental protection industry in developed countries in the world has gradually become the main consumer market for activated carbon. In the past 10 years, the environmental protection situation has become increasingly severe in China, but the activated carbon for water treatment and gas treatment is far from popular. With the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 2010 Shanghai World Expo bid and China in 10 to 20 years to fully step into the well-off society, it can be expected that only environmental protection in this field, the amount of activated carbon will increase exponentially, then environmental protection carbon will not be less than 100,000 to 120,000 tons/year.

Huang Jian, the person in charge of the activated carbon Professional Committee of the China Ornology Society, pointed out that for the activated carbon industry, the first 20 years of this century is an important strategic opportunity period with great achievements. According to the development status of the activated carbon industry and the changes in the internal and external environment, to guide the transformation and upgrading of scientific research, production and trade, we must promote the work through two aspects of scientific and technological innovation and structural optimization, so that the activated carbon industry can take the road of sustainable development of economy, environment and society. At the same time, it is necessary to deal with the relationship between the transformation and upgrading of activated carbon trade and the adjustment of industrial structure, correctly deal with the relationship between the development of activated carbon technology industry and traditional industries, accelerate the expansion to Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Gansu regions and areas in line with national industrial policies, and strive to form a number of activated carbon economic growth belts and industrial clusters with complementary advantages, internal and external integration, high value-added rate and strong innovation ability. Under the premise of maintaining the sustainable development of activated carbon trade, a new industrialization path with high scientific and technological content, less environmental pollution, large comparative advantages and full play of human resources will be developed.

At the national activated Carbon academic seminar, some experts suggested that: play the role of activated carbon industry associations, strengthen the coordination and management of the industry, strengthen cooperation between enterprises and gradually transition to enterprise groups, establish and cultivate China's large activated carbon enterprise groups, and enhance international competitiveness. Pay attention to the effective use of existing activated carbon raw material resources, and actively seek alternative raw materials and develop new resources. There are many resources available for the production of activated carbon, such as bamboo and wood in the south, fruit husks, fruit pits, wood processing "three leftovers" in the north, cotton stalks, rice husks, high-quality coal, natural asphalt, carbon black, petroleum coke, petroleum asphalt and so on. A large amount of discarded petroleum coke in the petrochemical industry is also a good raw material for activated carbon, which can be produced by simple superheated steam processing. Nantong air purification activated carbon closely combines science and technology with production practice, vigorously advocates scientific and technological innovation, and organizes forces to overcome pollution problems in chemical production and reduce consumption.
